Sarbananda Sonowal is the designated Chief Minister of Assam. He is widely regarded as one of the most charismatic, dynamic and firebrand politicians of Assam. The stunning success of the BJP in Assam could have been achieved because of the leadership role provided by Sonowal.
Currently, Sonowal is a Member of Parliament and represents Lakhimpur Lok Sabha Constituency. Apart from that, he is also a minister of state for Sports and Youth Affairs. He has done wonderful job in the last two years and helped young prolific players to get prepared for Rio Olympic, 2016.
Profile of Sarbananda Sonowal
Sarbananda was born in Dinjan, Dibrugarh district on 30th October, 1961. He used to show leadership skills while being in school. Later, he joined All India Students’ Union – AASU – and became its face in the endeavor of this students’ organization to save Assam from illegal immigrants of Bangladesh. He became the President of AASU in 1992 and remained at the helm till 1999. He was also a well-known politician of Assam Gana Parishad – AGP. In fact, many have started to see him the next AGP Chief Minister of Assam after Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. However, he left the party in 2011. That was because of AGP association with Congress. Sonowal always considers Congress an evil for Assamese as they allowed illegal immigrants and vindicated them with IMDT Act. Not ready to make compromises, Sonowal left AGP and joined BJP in 2011.
BJP was looking for a credible face in Assam. Sonowal decision was a blessing in disguise for them. He was immediately inducted into the National Executive of the party. In BJP, Sonowal who retained a figure of uncompromising and incorruptible politician saw meteoric rise. He was made the State President and saw the party scoring handsomely in the 2014 General Assembly Election. He was inducted into Narendra Modi ministry.
When BJP started its preparation for Assam, it can’t find any match of Sonowal. It projected him the Chief Ministerial candidate and Sonowal justified the decision with stunning and unprecedented success in Assam.

I have seen many people trying to find the name of the better of half of Sarbananda Sonowal. Obviously, they are going to get blank result.
Sarbananda Sonowal is unmarried. When he had joined AASU, he took the oath to devote his life for the cause of Assamese. That’s why he decided to remain single.
It is quite surprising that May 2016 Assembly election in various states gave three noteworthy results – Sonowal in Assam, Mamta in West Bengal and Jayalalitha in Tamil Nadu. Surprisingly, all of these three are single. They never married. Further, Mamta Banerji and Sarbananda Sonowal have no history of being in any committed relationship ever. Sonowal had never any girlfriend. However, Jayalalitha is little bit different as her relationship with MGR is a well-known stuff.
Apart from these three, we have currently many single Chief Ministers. Mehbooba Mufti is a divorcee and currently living a single life with her two daughters. Nitish Kumar is a widower and living as a single. Anandi Ben Patel is single since last two decades after getting separated from her husband Mafat Lal. Prakash Singh Badal is a widower. Navin Patnaik is a single who never married and needless to say the Prime Minister who is a single by choice.
